Aeronautical engineers design, develop and perform tests on aircrafts. Aeronautical Engineering can be studied at the City University, London which offers this course both at the bachelors and masters degree level. The course teaches a student the necessary expertise in technical aspects, as well as managerial skills which are an integral part of the aerospace industry. Course duration: The bachelor’s degree course or B.Eng is a three year full time course or a four years full time course along with an industrial placement. Course Structure: The 1st year includes foundation studies and detailed concepts in Fluids, Thermodynamics, Electrical engineering, Engineering management, Manufacturing methods, Mechanics of solids, Engineering drawing and design, Computing, Engineering materials, and others. Year 2 consists of Aerodynamics, Mechatronics, Applied thermodynamics, Aircraft structures and materials, Engineering mathematics and statistics, computing, etc. During the second year students are given a training in flight testing at the Cranfield University. In year 3, students are allowed to take up subjects of their choice given in the list of optional subjects and are given the freedom of studying abroad for one year or taking up any industrial placement after completing the second year. They also get to work on individual projects of their interest and develop necessary skills and in depth knowledge in the same. Selection Procedure: For B.Eng: A/AS level: 280 UCAS tariff points, typically BBC including A-level math at grade B. A-level physics is desirable, BTEC: DMM in ND in relevant subject, including D in L3 math, IB: 28, including a minimum of 6 in math at higher level. Fees: For students of UK the fee is £3,290, and for international students it is £10,500. Scholarships are also given to deserving candidates who have BBB (300 UCAS points) or above, including mathematics and physics or another relevant subject. Placement: The industrial placement programme gives the student the necessary on job training and exposes them to the various real work life situations of professional life. Further in collaboration with the University’s Center for Career and Skills Developments it helps in providing good placement assistance to the students.
