A Doctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1017) in the project Between runes and manuscripts (Bokstavar mellom runer og manuskript) is available at the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies (ILN), University of Oslo. Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for this fellowship.

The main focus of Between runes and manuscripts is on Norway and inscriptions found there, but with a comparative view to the rest of Scandinavia and The British Isles. The PhD Fellow will contribute to a database of the inscriptions by collecting and registering inscriptions.

Eligibility: 

• A Master’s Degree within the relevant fields (see above) or equivalent education. The Master’s Degree must have been obtained by the time of application.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have a Master’s Degree within the relevant fields (see above) or equivalent education. The Master’s Degree must have been obtained by the time of application.

• Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge


• Applicants to the programme for the PhD degree in Science must obtain a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the TOEFL test or a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS (academic) test. The same applies to applicants for postdoctoral research fellow positions.
