University of Exeter and University of South Florida offer PhD  Studentships for UK/EU and International Applicants in Post-Disaster  Recovery. Each award covering fees, stipend and travel bursary, and  commences September 2013. The doctoral thesis will be supervised by faculty  based in Exeter and the University of South Florida (USF). Studentships  will be awarded on the basis of merit and are awarded for three years of  full-time study (part-time pro-rata). The closing date for applications is  13th June 2013.

Study Subject(s): Studentships are provided  in the field of Post-Disaster Recovery. Successful applicants will  investigate the significance of responses by Third Sector organisations to  post-disaster arenas, focusing on the New Zealand city of Christchurch, and on  the “mid-range” period beyond immediate/emergency responses to the earthquakes  in 2010 and 2011. The successful Exeter applicant will be based  within Geography (Streatham Campus, Exeter) at the College of  Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Exeter. Course  Level: Studentships are available for pursuing  PhD degree level at University of Exeter and University of South  Florida. Eligibility: -Minimum GPA of 3.5 / Minimum 2:1 undergraduate  degree -Masters degree / professional experience preferred -Research to  be co-supervised by Professor Paul Cloke (Exeter) and Professors Graham Tobin  and Linda Whiteford (USF)

Scholarship Description:  Two 3-year fully funded  postgraduate studentships are available for outstanding candidates – one award  based  at the University of Exeter (UK) and the other at the University of South  Florida (USA).  Each award covering fees, stipend and travel bursary, and  commences September 2013. Successful applicants will investigate the  significance of responses by Third Sector organisations to post-disaster arenas,  focusing on the New Zealand city of Christchurch, and on the “mid-range” period  beyond immediate/emergency responses to the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.   The doctoral thesis will be supervised by faculty based in Exeter and the  University of South Florida (USF).

What does it cover? The Exeter award provides  annual funding to cover UK/EU/International tuition fees, a stipend, payment for  110 hours of work (teaching-related activities) and a contribution towards  research costs. The award will cover the tuition fees in full, plus £13,590 per  year (covering stipend and work payment) and modest travel grant.
