A two-year position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow is available at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo. Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for this fellowship.

Scholarship Benefits: Position code 1352, Pay Grade from NOK 486 100 to 567 100 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority.

Eligibility: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a hydrology, meteorology or related geo-scientific field with documented knowledge relevant for the qualifications given above.

Candidates should have a good process understanding of Earth System Sciences and have documented experience in assessing the impact of climate variability and change on the physical system. The successful candidate should further demonstrate:

  • Strong quantitative skills, including large-scale modelling and data analysis

  • Ability to work with large data sets, combining observations and model simulations

  • Technical expertise in computer software and programming

  • A proven track record in peer-reviewed publications

  • Evidence of creativity and capability of independent research


Applications are encouraged from dedicated candidates with excellent writing and communication skills, good cooperation skills and ability to work in a highly team-orientated environment.

A good command of English is required.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a hydrology, meteorology or related geo-scientific field with documented knowledge relevant for the qualifications given above.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirements: A good command of English is required for all students attending the University of Oslo. International students; Ph.D. research fellows and post-doctoral research fellows who are not native speakers of English, must document their proficiency in English by taking one of the following internationally recognised tests

  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language

  • IELTS – International English Language Testing Service

  • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge

  • Applicants to the programme for the Ph.D. degree in Science must obtain a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the TOEFL test or a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS (academic) test. The same applies to applicants for postdoctoral research fellow positions.
