The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, specialization in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for a period of three years. To be eligible for this fellowship candidate must hold a master’s degree in ICT, electrical engineering or a similar/related field and document competence in areas relevant to the position. Application deadline is June 7, 2014.


 The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, specialization in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for a period of three years. The position is located at campus Grimstad and the starting date is negotiable. The department has 3 large and active research groups in ICT including 7 Professors and 10 Associate Professors. In addition, there are about 20 Research Fellows on the PhD programme in ICT. Other members of the research group in ICT include one Professor II and one Associate Professor II.

 The fellowship is offered for a period of three years.

The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, salary grade 50 (NOK 421.100). A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.

  • Fellowship is provided in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with specialization in Mobile Communications at the Faculty of Engineering and Science.

  • This fellowship is available for pursuing PhD degree level.


Eligibility: Applications from applicants who already hold a PhD will normally not be considered. The candidate must hold a master’s degree in ICT, electrical engineering or a similar/related field and document competence in areas relevant to the position. Emphasis will be given to the applicant’s qualifications in the following fields:


•Excellent knowledge of English; •Solid knowledge in mathematics, especially in stochastic processes, analysis, and linear algebra; •Solid knowledge in signal analysis and system theory; •Strong programming skills and years of experience in using mathematical and numerical tools such as MATLAB;


•Solid knowledge of mobile radio communications and power line communications. Applicants from some countries must document their English proficiency through one of the following tests with the stated results or better:


•TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 550 on the Paper-based Test (PBT), or 80 on the Internet based Test (iBT)


•IELTS – International English Language Testing System, with a result of at least 6.5.
