The School of Businessunder the University of California, Berkeley is named as Walter A Haas School of Business or simply as Haas. Haas School of business was established in the year 1898 and is considered as one of the oldest public schools in USA. Today the School of Business is located at Berkeley campus in California in three interconnected buildings in the south east side of the campus. Haas School of Business has nearly 2264 students enrolled in its six degree programs, managed by more than 200 academic staff. The School of Business also has nearly 36000 alumni till date and 129 professional faculties. The various graduate level academic programs on offer by the Haas School of Business include the following – Full time Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program, evening and weekend MBA degree programs, Berkeley Columbia Executive MBA degree program, PhD degree program and Master of Financial Engineering degree program. Apart from these the School also offers undergraduate and executive education programs. The Full time MBA program as usual is a two years course but has a curriculum design which provides a unique experience known as ‘leading through innovation’. Specialization for the MBA program is provided in one of the seven general management areas or can be taken as a certification in any one of the five areas of study offered by the School. The seven areas of concentration at Haas include the following – Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Operations & IT Management, Management of Organizations, Economic Analysis & Public Policy and Business & Public Policy. The five areas of study for certification include – Technology, Entrepreneurship, Real Estate, Global Management and Health Management. Full time MBA degree program is also characterized by many Leadership Development series which include executive skills seminars and the special program known as ‘Haas@ Work’. Through the Haas @ Work program students are required to work in large firms during their period of study at Haas School of Business. The evening and weekend part time MBA programs are for a period of three years. The Certificate programs however are not available for part time MBA students. An executive MBA program is also on offer by Haas in partnership with Columbia University wherein students are required to stay in Berkeley and New York City during the term of the course. Once the course is completed the student gets two MBA degrees – one from UC Berkeley and one from Columbia University. The PhD degree program at Haas is very strict and selective in nature as only 15 students get the opportunity to register for the program in a year. The Master of Financial Engineering Program concentrates mainly on the financial market and is a one year course with a 10 week internship. The course has so far given cent percent placements for its students in reputed financial companies. The undergraduate program at Haas includes a Bachelor of Science degree and core courses in Finance, Marketing, OB, Business Communication and Accounting.
