Student VISA for Norway

To study in Norway, you will generally need to apply for a student visa. The process for applying for a student visa depends on your country of citizenship and the length of your study program.

If you are a citizen of an European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) country, you do not need a student visa to study in Norway. However, you will need to register with the Norwegian authorities after arriving in the country.

If you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country, you will generally need to apply for a student visa. To apply for a student visa, you will need to submit an application to the Norwegian embassy or consulate in your home country. You will need to provide several documents as part of your application, including:

  • Passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Documentation of your education and qualifications
  • Acceptance letter from a Norwegian educational institution
  • Proof of sufficient funds to support yourself while studying in Norway

If your study program is less than three months long, you may be able to apply for a visitor visa instead of a student visa. However, you will not be allowed to work while in Norway on a visitor visa.

Once you have been granted a student visa, you will need to register with the Norwegian authorities upon arrival in the country. This will typically involve submitting additional documents and paying a fee.
