Yale School of Architecture

Yale School of Architecture, which is also known as YSOA, is a renowned institute in the USA. It was established in 1916 as a department of Architecture of the School of the Fine Arts in 1916. In 1959, the institute separated from the School of the Fine Arts to come as School of Art and Architecture and became full-fledged architecture institute in 1972. Yale School of Architecture has received affiliation from the Yale University. It works with an aim of providing quality education in the discipline of architecture and creates talented professionals in the field. It imparts undergraduate level study in the discipline of architecture – Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Architecture. Apart from UG courses, the institute also conducts post-graduate level program in the same field i.e. Master of Architecture (M Arch). The doctorate level study is also being offered by the institute in the form of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Moreover, Yale School of Architecture also imparts joint degree programs related with architecture. Courses

Courses of Yale School of Architecture are divided into four categories: undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate and joint degree programs.

Undergraduate Programs

Yale School of Architecture provides undergraduate level study in the discipline of architecture with the purpose of including broader aspect of architecture through a more liberal arts education. The UG level program also enables students to pursue advanced study in architecture, the social sciences, public affairs, city planning and development, history of arts etc. Yale School of Architecture offers UG level architecture program in the form of:

• Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Architecture

Admission Criteria: Candidates’ admission to this program is done at par with the rules and regulations of the Yale University.

Post-Graduate Programs

Yale School of Architecture conducts enrollment to its post-graduate level programs for those aspirants who have completed bachelor’s level examination in the relevant stream i.e. Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Architecture or B Arch. The institute offers these post-graduate degrees:

• Master of Architecture (M Arch)

• Master of Environmental Design (MED)

Admission Criteria: Admission of the aspirants to these PG programs are decided according to the marks obtained by them in Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and also performances in the qualifying examination. For the international students, valid Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) score is mandatory. However, admissions are also based upon submission of transcripts, personal essay, resume, and letters of recommendation, portfolio and research proposal (for MED program).

Doctorate Program

Yale School of Architecture provides its students the opportunity to pursue research in their desired area of architectural study. The institute offers the following doctorate program:

• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Architecture

The doctorate program provides its students the in-depth study of architecture from its historical study to the present scenario in the world. The PhD (Architecture) program is conducted under the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Admission Criteria: Candidates having passed master’s degree in architecture and have two years of work experience can apply for this doctorate program. Admissions are done on the basis of candidates’ official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores or the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) scores (for international students). Final selection is also based on interview conducted by the doctoral faculty. Joint Degree Programs Yale School of Architecture also admits students to its various joint degree programs. It imparts these programs under the following dual degrees: • M Arch + M.B.A • M Arch + M.E.D • M Arch + M.E.M These programs are imparted by Yale School of Architecture in partnership with the School of Management and the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. Students can apply for both the institutes, but the admissions are done as per the norms of the Yale University.
