The British Library Scholarships arise from  the special relationship the University has with the British Library. They are  intended to support projects that draw significantly on both the holdings and  expertise of the British Library. As a consequence, successful students will be  jointly supervised by staff at the University of Sheffield and at the British  Library (with the Sheffield academic acting as the lead  supervisor). Freedom, oppression and resistance: Evolving stories in South  African political ephemera and propaganda, 1948-2004 - supervised by Dr  Daniel Hammett and Professor Charles Pattie (Department of Geography, University  of Sheffield) and Ian Cooke (British Library). Entrepreneurs, popular music  and the web: the revaluation and monetisation of the vinyl archive – supervised  by Dr Darragh O’Reilly (Management School, University of Sheffield), Dr David  Patmore (Department of Music, University of Sheffield) and Andy Linehan (Popular  Music Curator, British Library) – to be advertised shortly.

What does it cover? -A British Library  Scholarship award will cover the cost of the UK/EU tuition fees and provide an  annual, tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard UK research rate, which for  2013-14 will be £13,726. In addition, all students will receive a Research  Training Support Grant of £500 for expenses related to their research, such as  travel, conferences, books, consumables and equipment. -International  applicants will be required to pay the difference between the UK/EU tuition fee  and the Overseas tuition fee. -Awards are tenable for a maximum of three  years, subject to satisfactory progress.
