CNIO Laboratory Training Programme for Undergraduates Students, Spain

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) announces up to 8 vacancies for undergraduate students to work in a lab at the CNIO over the summer. Students of any nationality can apply for this CNIO Summer Training Programme. CNIO’s aim is to examine the impact of the division between further and higher education on strategies to widen participation in undergraduate education. The essential mission of the CNIO is to conduct research excellence and deliver innovative technology in the field of cancer to the National Health System and the National System of Science and Innovation.

In order to be eligible applicants must have a good knowledge of English.

Degree Level: Programme is available to undergraduate university students to work in a lab at the CNIO over the summer. 

Study Subject: Programme is available in the area of Life Sciences.

Participating Institution(s): Spain 

Eligibility: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for this Scholarship:-

• Applicants must have passed at least 2/3 of the total credit points (courses or exams) required for a Life Sciences or Biomedicine-related undergraduate degree (in any country).


• Applicants must have an excellent academic track record with a Grade Point Average (GPA) above 0.75 (with your GPA as the numerator and the highest possible GPA as the denominator).


• must have a good knowledge of English.


• must be available from June 27 to August 19 (8 weeks) to attend the training programme. If you cannot be at the CNIO during this period, you will not be eligible for the programme.

Eligible Nationalities: Students of any nationality can apply for this CNIO Summer Training Programme.

College Admission Requirement 

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have passed at least 2/3 of the total credit points (courses or exams) required for a Life Sciences or Biomedicine-related undergraduate degree (in any country).

Test Requirements: Applicants must have an excellent academic track record with a Grade Point Average (GPA) above 0.75 (with your GPA as the numerator and the highest possible GPA as the denominator).

English language Requirements: In order to be eligible applicants must have a good knowledge of English.

Scholarship Benefit: Travel expenses and meals at the CNIO cafeteria will be covered for summer training programme students during their stay at the centre. In addition, students without public health assistance benefits in Spain will be covered with a private health insurance provided by the CNIO for the same period of time (8 weeks).

Supporting Material: Applicants have to submit the following documents along with the application form:-

• Two letters of recommendation


• Copy of an official Transcript of Records, Academic Transcript or Certification, stating the number of credits passed


• Copy of the National Identity Card or Passport


• Proof of having a valid health insurance, whether public or private, during the whole summer stay. Citizens from countries issuing the European Health Card (EHC), including Spanish nationals, must present this documentation. It is highly recommended to have these documents prepared in advance.
