Through a combination of architectural design, urban analysis, and planning-oriented studio work, students develop the skills necessary to tackle pressing real-world challenges such as housing, public space enhancement, sustainability, and urban resilience.

What you'll study

The program typically spans 9 months, during which students engage in a variety of courses designed to equip them with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The curriculum is divided into two main phases:

  • Housing, Community Development, and Inclusion
  • Electives (options include heritage and adaptive reuse, digital design, climate adaptation, or development studies)
  • Capstone Project / Thesis (a research-led design proposal or written thesis with a design component)

Entry requirements

To apply for this program, candidates should possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, or a closely related field. Applicants from other disciplines may be considered if they demonstrate strong design and visual communication skills.
  • A minimum academic performance that aligns with the institution's requirements, typically equivalent to a lower or upper second-class standard.
  • Proficiency in English, usually evidenced by an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with minimum sub-scores as required) or an equivalent test score.

Required application documents include a completed application form, academic transcripts, a CV (optional but recommended), a portfolio (strongly recommended for design-focused applicants), a statement of purpose, and letters of recommendation (if required).

Career prospects

Graduates of the Architecture and Urban Studies program are well-prepared for diverse career paths in architecture, urban planning, and design. They may find opportunities in government agencies, private firms, non-profit organizations, or academia, addressing important issues like urban development, community engagement, and sustainable design practices. Additionally, post-study work rights may be available, allowing graduates to seek employment related to their qualifications, subject to local regulations and eligibility criteria.
