 The course comprises three sub-areas:

(1) professional language training as a prerequisite for the content study,

(2) linguistics, and

(3) literary and cultural studies.

The range of courses also includes medieval English-language literature. The study of literary works takes place with a broad concept of text and from a comprehensive cultural studies perspective, in which dramas, poems, and novels can be the subject of investigation as well as films, TV series, or popular musical traditions such as reggae and hip-hop. You will learn how to analyze and understand the structure and function of texts in a wide variety of media. Dealing with literary and cultural studies theories from narrative theory to feminist, Postcolonial, or eco-critical approaches play an important role in this. The area of ​​cultural studies offers seminars on media analysis (including film, photography, television, digital media), on cultural phenomena such as Disney or Harry Potter, on ethnic and post-colonial cultures (e.g. Black Britain, Scottish Identities, African-American Literature), and also deals with overarching ones Issues such as the cultural construction of heroes and heroism or the media representation and communication of social problems such as poverty.
