Mechanical engineers design equipment, develop prototypes, evaluate tools and manufacture solutions for real-world applications across a range of challenging and fast-growing sectors, including transport, defence and robotics. Studying this degree will prepare you for a career in the broad areas of contemporary product design, automated manufacture, computer aided engineering, and applied industrial engineering. You will exploit advances in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, computing technologies and mechatronics, and develop the professional responsibilities needed to operate with confidence in the rapidly changing world of mechanical engineering. Gaining fundamental skills in programming, mathematics, control theory, modelling and professional practice, you will graduate as a skilled professional with expertise aligned with the needs of organisations from a range of sectors, able to actively participate in, and manage, the design and development of mechanical engineering systems.

Entry Requirements

Typical offer 112-120 UCAS Tariff points. This must include A Level Mathematics at Grade C or above or equivalent. GCSE English Language at Grade C or Grade 4 or above, or equivalent, is also required.

  • BTEC Extended Diploma (or combination of BTEC QCF qualifications): Distinction, Merit, Merit (DMM);
  • T Level: Overall grade of Merit;
  • International Baccalaureate (IB): We are happy to accept IB qualifications which achieve the required number of UCAS Tariff points;
  • Access to Higher Education Diploma: 45 credits at Level 3, for example 15 credits at Distinction and 30 credits at Merit or 24 credits at Distinction and 21 credits at Merit. The required total can be attained from various credit combinations.
