Applications are invited for Scholarships for Erasmus Mundus Master in Women’s and Gender Studies (GEMMA). The Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers the programme’s tuition fees and participation costs.
Scholarships offered in GEMMA belong to Action 1 strand of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission and are designed to cover some of the expenses students incur throughout their study period.
GEMMA is the first Erasmus +: Erasmus Mundus Master´s Degree in Women’s and Gender Studies in Europe. It is a programme of excellence supported by the European Commission, which has selected it as an Erasmus Mundus Master Course three consecutive times (in 2006, 2011 and 2017) and distinguished from an average of 150 project proposals submitted annually as “a (…) project and model in the field of Women’s Studies and Gender Studies in a European and global perspective”.
Degree Level: Scholarships are available to pursue Master degree programme.
Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded in Women’s and Gender Studies (GEMMA).
Scholarship Benefits: The Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers the programme’s tuition fees and participation costs. Additionally, the scholarship includes a monthly contribution to subsistence costs (1.000 euros during the 24-month duration of the Programme) and a yearly contribution to the travel and installation costs. The GEMMA Consortium pays the grants to students according to specific payment arrangements which are communicated to the grantees in advance.

PARTNER COUNTRY scholarships can be awarded to students selected by the GEMMA Consortium who come from a partner country (Non EU) other than a Programme country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, training or work) in a Programme country (EU) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years. English Language Requirements: English: TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Proficiency test or equivalent
Spanish: Instituto Cervantes DELE certificate or equivalent
Italian: Dante Institute standard test or equivalent
Language requirements may vary depending on the university. In the case of the Universities of Utrecht, as well as Central European University, TOEFL and IELTS tests are recommended, although other official certificates may be considered.
Application Procedure: Candidates should complete the application form in all sections. Applications can be completed in any of the official teaching languages of the GEMMA Consortium (English, Italian or Spanish). However, candidates should fill in the application in the language of instruction of the institution they choose as their 1st preference home university. Therefore, if you are applying to Granada or Oviedo as the 1st preference home university, you should fill in the application in Spanish, while if you are applying to CEU, York, Lodz or Utrecht, you should do so in English. For Bologna, you can use either English or Italian. Failure to choose the correct language for your application could result in automatic rejection.
The application form should be submitted online via the GEMMA webpage. Only exceptionally, if this was not possible due to technical difficulties, candidates may email it to gemma-at-ugr.es, always before the deadline and after having informed the central coordination about the nature of the difficulties experienced.
