Scholarship Description:

Fully Funded! The Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP) at Kyoto University is now accepting applications for the 2023-24 academic year. The AFLSP, administered by the Bai Xian Asia Institute (BXAI), aims to foster lasting relationships between students and educational institutions in Asia based on mutual trust and understanding. This prestigious two-year scholarship provides financial support, a summer program, and networking opportunities for selected students.

Degree Level:

This scholarship is for Master's degree programs at Kyoto University.

Available Subjects:

Applicants can apply to any master's degree program offered at Kyoto University.


Scholarship Benefits:

The AFLSP offers Japan's highest-class scholarship, including monthly stipends (Year 2019: approx. 150,000 Yen/Month), admission fees, tuition fees, and a professional enrichment program. The amount may vary depending on the exchange rate.


Eligible Nationalities:

Students who graduated or are graduating from the designated universities in Asia, including Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar are eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the AFLSP, applicants must:

  1. Be a graduate from a designated university in Asia.
  2. Be admitted to a Kyoto University master's degree program.

Application Procedure:

  1. Check the application period: April 1 (Sat) to April 10 (Mon), 2023 (closes at 17:00 p.m. Japan time).
  2. Read the Application Guidelines: Japanese, English.
  3. Prepare the required documents.
  4. Applicants must send all application documents in PDF format and send them all at once in a single ZIP folder to the email address: AFLSP@mail2.adm.kyoto-u.ac.jp

Application documents include:

  • Scholarship Application Form
  • Research Plan (in any format)
  • Essay on a contemporary key issue in Asia
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Photograph of the applicant
  • Certificate of English Proficiency (TOEFL iBT, IELTS, etc.)
  • Copy of the university diploma
  • Certificate of enrollment (if the applicant is expecting to graduate from a university)
  • Academic Transcript
  • Declaration of Understanding and Agreement for an International Student Scholarship Application
  • Letter of Admission from a graduate school at Kyoto University
  • Copy of Residence Card (both sides)
  • "教育部学歴証書電子注冊備案表" or "教育部学籍在線験証報告" (only required for applicants who graduated or will graduate from a designated university in China)
