About the The Hopkins Centre:




The Hopkins Centre: Research for Rehabilitation and Resilience supports applied research in an interdisciplinary research environment that brings clinicians, citizens, researchers, academics, and industry together to conduct research of relevance to brain injury, spinal cord injury, persistent pain and other chronic disabling conditions. The Hopkins Centre is a joint initiative of the Menzies Health Institute Queensland, Griffith University and Division of Rehabilitation, Metro South Health.

The Centre is now seeking expressions of interest from candidates with background qualifications relevant to rehabilitation and disability, who are interested in undertaking a PhD.

  • The 2024 Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship has an annual stipend of $33,480 (indexed) for a period of up to three years of full-time study. Please see the GUPRS Conditions of Award for more information.
  • A successful International applicant will also be awarded a Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship to cover tuition fees for up to three years. Please see the GUIPRS Conditions of Award for more information.

This scholarship is open to domestic and international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria

Griffith University is seeking exceptional candidates for higher degree research scholarships in the fields of health sciences, social science, health services research, and health policy. Successful applicants will possess a strong academic background and a passion for advancing knowledge and practice in disability and rehabilitation services.

Key Requirements:

  • Academic Excellence: A strong academic record in health sciences, social science, health services research, or health policy.
  • Research Focus: A demonstrated interest in disability and rehabilitation services, with a desire to contribute to research in areas such as rehabilitation service delivery, sustainable employment after injury, accessible inclusive technologies, and enriching environments for independence.  
  • Educational Qualifications: Completion (or expected completion) of a bachelor's degree with first-class honors or a master's degree (AQF Level 9) with a significant research component equivalent to a bachelor's honors degree. Candidates with an equivalent level of attainment as recognized by Griffith University may also be considered.
  • English Language Proficiency (for international applicants):
  1. IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no band score less than 6.0
  2. Paper-based TOEFL: Minimum score of 575 with a score of no less than 5.0 on the TWE
  3. Internet-based (iBT) TOEFL: Minimum score of 79 with no sub-score less than 19
