The foundation offers two key scholarships for international PhD students: 

 1. Dieter Schumacher International PhD-Scholarship

•  Monthly stipend: €1550 for living expenses. 
•  Annual allowance: €1400 for travel expenses. 

 2. Ute and György Széll International PhD-Scholarship

•  Monthly stipend: €1450 for living expenses. 
•  Annual allowance: €1300 for travel expenses.

1. Dieter Schumacher International PhD-Scholarship

This scholarship supports outstanding PhD students in Economics. It funds a 12-24 month stay at a German university or research institute, encouraging research in fields such as: 

•  Fiscal and monetary policy
•  Labor markets
•  Income distribution 
•  Financial markets 

 Eligibility:

•  Doctoral candidates under the age of 30. 

 2. Ute and György Széll International PhD-Scholarship

 This scholarship caters to PhD students in Social Sciences and Humanities. It allows a 6-month stay at a German university, foundation, or archive. 

•  No age limit for applicants.

Application Procedure

Requirements for Application

For both scholarships, candidates must demonstrate academic excellence, social engagement, and alignment with the Hans Böckler Foundation's values. Key requirements include:

• A detailed research project description (3 pages).
• A research paper outlining the topic, methodology, and objectives of the project.
• Invitation letter from a German host supervisor.
• Recommendation from your current PhD supervisor.
• CV in table format.
• Relevant diploma or degree.
• Completed application form.
