International scholarships in Geography are offered for pursuing a research career through MRes programme at the University of Leicester, UK. -Students must have at least an upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in an environment related or a science subject. -Students with industrial or professional experience can be considered as required qualification on a case-by-case basis. -Good numerical skills and the willingness to learn a programming language are required to succeed with this topic. Experience with spatial data (e.g. GIS / remote sensing) are essential.

MRes scholarships in Geography allows students to develop their domain knowledge and research skills under the direct supervision of a member of staff. 140 credits of the MRes are awarded for the research thesis, which is more extensive than for a taught MSc. An additional 40 taught credits are delivered by a variety of methods including lectures, seminars, self-paced learning, directed reading and practicals. Assessment of taught modules is by a mix of coursework and examination. The scholarship will enable to contribute to the novel field of research by analyzing climate data (rainfall, soil moisture, temperature…) for changing patterns over space and time. Two study regions will be compared: The UK has a temperate region and Southern Africa as a semi-arid region.
