Tips for Applying
Apply for admission early! In order to be considered for IUPUI scholarships, you must be admitted to IUPUI by the scholarship deadline.
Submit only a typed or neatly printed (in black ink only) application.
Make sure you use your grammar and spell check on your computer. It is also a good idea to have another set of eyes review your work to catch any mistakes!
Most top competitive scholarships will require an interview during the final selection process. Be sure to dress professionally and be prepared. It is always helpful to have a “script” about your educational goals, how this scholarship will help you achieve those goals, as well as an explanation about the unique qualities you have to offer to the scholarship program.
If you can send it by FAX, follow up to make sure it was received in its entirety. Sometimes the transmission doesn't go through, or the receiving end ran out of paper or some other contingency that will jeopardize your chances if you don't follow up.
If you are applying at the last minute, make sure your application will be received by the deadline – call to see where to drop off the application or FAX it. Follow up to make sure it arrived. Sometimes, just taking this extra step will demonstrate your seriousness with the details.
For those scholarships that do rely on financial need, your FAFSA must be filed by March 1st in order to qualify!
Correspond with those who will be writing your letters of recommendation frequently, reminding them of the deadline and answering any questions they may have for you. The more familiar they are with your qualifications, the better the quality of the letter of recommendation!
Keep record of the scholarships for which you have applied.
