In case of any discrepancies in wording or interpretation between the Japanese and English versions, the Japanese version will take precedence.
Purpose: These fellowships are awarded to outstanding young researchers in Japan, providing them with the opportunity to pursue research on a self-selected topic based on their innovative ideas. The ultimate aim of the program is to nurture and support the development of excellent researchers.
Features:
Core program for fostering young researchers: This fellowship program is a key initiative in Japan for cultivating young Japanese researchers.
Emphasis on the independence of young researchers: Exceptional young researchers have the freedom to focus on a research topic of their choice at a research institution of their choosing.
Provision of research funding and grants: Funding is provided to doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers as Research Fellowships for Young Scientists by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), who can also apply for the Grant-in-Aid for JSPS Fellows to support their research endeavors.
Support for childbirth and childcare: Fellows are allowed to take leave from their research for childbirth and childcare, with the option to return to the laboratory afterwards. They may also choose to work reduced hours during such leave.
