Scholarship Description:

Masters Scholarships in Engineering at Pontifical Catholic University in Chile, 2018 is open for Developing Countries . The scholarship allows Masters level programm(s) in the field of Geotechnical Engineering taught at Chile Universities, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile . The deadline of the scholarship is .

Scholarship Description: The Governments of Chile and Japan, through its Agency for International Cooperation AGCI and JICA is welcoming applicants for master scholarships in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. These scholarships are available for the applicants from developing countries.

The purpose of the Scholarship Program AGCI -JICA is a joint initiative with Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to contribute to the training of advanced human capital in the area of Seismic Engineering through participation of Latin American professionals in the Masters in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering (Master1EG), given by the School of Engineering of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

About University: The Chilean Agency for International Development Cooperation (AGCID) is a Chilean public service, created in 1990, functionally decentralized, with legal personality and own property.

Degree Level: These scholarships are available to pursue the master programme.

Available Subject: These scholarships are awarded in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering.

Scholarship Benefits: These scholarships will cover the followings:

  • Payment of one-way ticket from the capital of the country of origin of the grantee to the city of the destination of arrival, Santiago, Chile and back to his country, at the end of the studies.

  • The total value of the total Masters for AGCI grantees for 13 months will be of 198 Chilean Unit of Account – UF (current value of approximately 26, 487 Chilean pesos per UF according to the information April 2017, but there could be a variation in the rate at the moment of enrollment) if there is a difference AGCI would provide a maximum of 2,500,000 Chilean pesos and the difference should be paid directly by the grantee. This last payment in particular and would be processed between the grantee and the University. University document may require payment of this amount to allow entry to the student.

  • Payment of $ 500,000 – (five hundred thousand pesos) per month for accommodation and maintenance for 13 months of the duration of the program. In the months of December, January and/or February, AGCI will pay to the grantee 100% of the monthly allowance only if the grantee remains in Chile for more than half of the respective months. In any other case1,  AGCI will pay only 50% of the amount of that allowance.

  • Provision is made by the scholarship as the grant is in effect, life insurance, health and accidents, events or incidents that affect the grantee and which may occur within the territory of Chile. Additionally, in the event that in relation to this point, the scholar should comply with what is stated in the No 6 of the fourth clause of the Convention whose preliminary format is attached in Annex 2 of this Call. and an incident should occur AGCI has a formal cooperation agreement with the System for the Provision of Public Health (FONASA ), the grantee shall be entitled to receive care through the System of Chilean Public Health Service since the grantee would have a national identity card issued by the Civil Registry Service of Chile.

  • In his first semester in the program of study, the grantee will be offered an assignment of textbooks and study materials, amounting to the sum of only ninety thousand Chilean pesos ($ 90,000).

  • Provided the grantee’s grade point average in the respective study program is equal to or greater than 5.5 (five point five) or its equivalent scale, they shall be granted, only once, an assignment of an amount equal to half the monthly allowance to support the costs for thesis preparation or any analogous requirement of compliance required by the institution of higher education for the respective degree. To do this, the grantee must prove the points raised in section V of the 3rd clause according to the Convention that is attached in Annex 2 of this Call before the expiration of the tenth month that AGCI is paying you the monthly stipend referred to in paragraph 3 of this section.

  • Payment in support of the thesis is the half monthly fee, as long as the recipient has obtained an average of 5.5 final in the Master’s Program


Numbers of Scholarships: Five scholarships are available.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • This program is aimed at professionals with two or more years of experience in the carrying out the profession of a Structural and Geotechnical Engineer, or in a related area.


eligible Nationalities: Applicants of  Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic and CARICOM member countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago can apply for these scholarships.

Application Procedure: Applicants can apply by post.

  • Grant Application Form to AGCI, duly completed and signed (see Appendix 1).

  • Letter of final acceptance to the Master’s Program, issued by the relevant authority of the School of Engineering of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, indicating the unconditional acceptance of the applicant in intensive mode between March 2018 and March 2019, including the presentation of the final project.

  • Each applicant must make inquiries particularly regarding the orientation and the Master’s Program curriculum. It is suggested that you get in contact with the head of the admissions process for the University via the following link: www masterieg.puc.cl

  • A compatible health certificate issued and signed by a licensed physician, indicating pre-existing conditions declared by the applicant (see Annex II)

  • Copy of your professional title.

  • A brief description of the reasons for you to study in Chile, the objectives of the studies you want to perform when you return to your country as you proposed in your application.

  • The brief description of the final project you will develop (preliminary).

  • Letter of academic recommendation.

  • Cover letter from your employer, in which it is specified clearly the interest of your employee or official in conducting these studies in Chile and indicating that the person concerned actually has permission to be absent during the duration the scholarship and that you will retain the person in you charge on their return. The Master’s program modules contemplated by the Japanese experts are mandatory for recipients of the AGCI scholarship and form part of the grant.
