Imperial College London PhD Studentship in Medical Statistics, UK 2016

The National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) is a major department of Imperial College’s Faculty of Medicine and is a leading international research centre for investigating the mechanisms underlying many chronic diseases within the cardiovascular and respiratory systems such as: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); asthma; atherosclerosis and heart failure.

As part of the application process applicants will be asked to show that they have met the College’s English-language requirement.

Scholarship Award: The studentship will be funded for 3 years with a tax free bursary of £22,278 per annum. Tuition fees at the Home/EU rate will also be paid. International students should note that those who are not UK/EU citizens will need to provide evidence that they have financial resources to pay the difference between the Home/EU and the overseas tuition fee rates.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for this scholarship:-

Applicants should hold a first or upper second class honours degree in a relevant subject (mathematics, statistics or epidemiology) and an MSc in a relevant subject (medical statistics, epidemiology or related discipline). Excellent skills in quantitative research methodology, statistical methods, analysis of large and complex datasets, data management and the use of statistical software are all essential. All students will belong to Imperial’s Graduate School which provides a comprehensive Professional Skills Programme and has received the Times Higher Award for Outstanding Support for Early Careers Researchers in 2006 and 2008.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: The National Heart and Lung Institute of Imperial College London is seeking applications from candidates with a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Medical Statistics or Epidemiology or a related discipline, for a 3 year PhD studentship.

English language Requirements: As part of the application process applicants will be asked to show that they have met the College’s English-language requirement. They can do this in a number of ways:
-Successfully pass the Imperial College London Pre-sessional English Programme. This equips international students with the academic language skills and literacy typically needed to begin postgraduate research or postgraduate taught courses in science, engineering and medicine.
-Take an English language proficiency test
-Provide evidence of a previous qualification that they have taken that confirms their English level
-Provide evidence that they meet one of our English language exemptions.
