Netherlands : MENA Scholarship Programme

The MSP Scholarships are distributed proportionally among the ten participating countries (Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Syria and Tunisia). Ideally, half of the scholarships are allocated to female applicants.

Applications for the MENA Scholarship Programme (MSP) should be submitted to the Netherlands Embassy in your own country before the scholarship application deadline. This page explains how you can apply for a scholarship and how the selection procedure works.

You must complete and sign the MSP Scholarship application form 2014. You can obtain this form from the Netherlands Embassy in your country or download it below.

The application form should be accompanied by the following necessary documents

  • Evidence of proficiency in speaking and writing the language of instruction;

  • An employer’s statement (download the requirements below);

  • A complete copy of your passport or other official identity document;

  • Certified copies of educational records in English or French (provide translations if necessary);

  • A detailed curriculum vitae (CV) in English;

  • One current photo;

  • A copy of your birth certificate (if requested by the Embassy).

Find the contact details of the embassy in your country.

Rules & Regulations

The MSP is governed by the Rules & Regulations of the Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP), although there are some exceptions for certain procedures (securing placement, selection of candidates). When you apply for an MSP scholarship you agree to abide by these Rules and Regulations.

The new version of the NFP Rules and Regulations will be available here from 1 December 2013.

Selection procedure

The number of applications for an MSP Scholarship always exceeds the number of available scholarships. The following selection procedure applies:

  1. The embassies assess your application against the eligibility criteria, give specific recommendations and may prioritise applications.

  2. The embassies forward the complete and eligible applications to Nuffic.

  3. Nuffic forwards the applications to the Dutch institution that provides the course to request academic admission for the candidates.

  4. The Dutch institutions assess the applications and decide whether the applicants’ educational background and professional experience meet the specific requirements of the course. The institutions decide who is admitted to a course. Only candidates admitted to a course will be eligible for an MSP scholarship.

  5. These assessments will lead to a selection. The final selection becomes available about two months after the scholarship application deadline.

  6. Nuffic informs the Dutch institutions and the embassies about the outcome of the selection.

Please note that you cannot make any changes or additions to the scholarship application after the embassy has sent your application to Nuffic. Applications that are not complete when submitted will be cancelled and will therefore not be taken in to consideration.

After the selection

The Dutch institutions inform the selected candidates about the outcome of the selection by email. Nuffic informs candidates who are not eligible or who have not been selected for a scholarship by email.

In cooperation with the Netherlands Embassy, the institutions make all further arrangements directly with the selected candidates. Upon arrival in the Netherlands, the Dutch institutions pay the scholarship holder an allowance for the duration of the short course. They also administer the individual scholarships, make logistical arrangements, and give guidance to the scholarship holders.

Some Dutch institutions and/or Netherlands Embassies of the countries participating in the MSP organise pre-departure meetings for candidates. If so, you will receive an invitation from the embassy.
