Smart Grid Technologies with Cloud Computing Solutions

About this course

The Smart Grid Technologies with Cloud Computing Services specialization comprises five industry-focused courses that provide a comprehensive understanding of next-generation power systems and digital grid technologies. Learners begin by exploring the evolution of conventional power systems to intelligent Smart Grids, including grid architecture, control centers, standards, reliability, and modern grid operations. The specialization then covers communication networks, cloud computing, communication protocols, cybersecurity, and privacy mechanisms that enable secure and connected Smart Grid infrastructures. The program further introduces Distribution Management Systems (DMS), fault management, voltage regulation, reactive power compensation, and FACTS devices for improving power quality and operational efficiency. Learners will also study Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), substation automation, smart homes, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and AI-driven Demand Side Management (DSM). Finally, the specialization focuses on the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including Solar PV, wind energy, Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), and Electric Vehicles (EVs), along with renewable energy forecasting, microgrid architecture, IEEE-based operational frameworks, and practical modelling and simulation using industry-standard software such as MATLAB, ETAP, Python, and HOMER Pro.
