What is Pest?

The agents like animals, insects, fungi, weed etc. which are troublesome to crops or livestock and cause harmful disease are called pest.

Pesticides:

Pesticides are chemical substances which are used to kill and control the pest.

Hazards of Pesticides:

Indiscriminate use of pesticide is responsible for poisoning of small farm animals, human beings , and beneficial bacteria.

It destroys farm ecosystem.

Sometime the villagers use pesticides for suicide.

Some Pesticides are so dangerous that they enter into blood circulation through open wound.

Some herbicides are absorbed through the skin.

The insecticides are absorbed through the skin.

The insecticides eliminate natural predators, which normally keep the harmful insect population down by feeding on them.

It is documented that pesticides used in storage area can cause cancer of stomach and other parts of gastrointestinal tract.

Precaution during Spraying:

Farmers should not work with empty stomach.

There should be no open wound.

The spraying should not be done in the direction of wind.

Use wire or needle when nozzle gets blocked.
