PhD Scholarships in Law at University of Oslo, Norway


A position as a PhD research fellow in the field "Law and Development" is available at the University of Oslo, Department of Public and International Law. The position will be affiliated with the research groups Human Rights and Development and Rights, Individuals, Culture and Society (RICS).




The standard fellowship period of 3 years is devoted to carrying out a project on law and development, as well as fulfilling the joint doctorate programme in the field of Law and Development offered by EDOLAD, a consortium of law faculties at six partner universities. The partners are: University of Oslo, University of Tilburg, University of Edinburgh, University of Tartu, University of Deusto and North-Western University.


Personal and professional requirements:

  1. Applicants must hold a master degree in law or another field relevant for law and development.

  2. In the light of the interdisciplinary character of the field and the requirement of empirical research as a component of the research project, candidates with multi-disciplinary competence or experience with qualitative research methods will be preferred.

  3. In the light of the intercultural character of the program, it will be considered a benefit if the candidate can demonstrate intercultural competence and communication skills

  4. The project language is English, and the applicants must therefore have a good command of the English language, written and spoken. Applicants must provide an English language certificate, either IELTS (at least 6,5) or TOEFL (iBT at least 80; CBT at least 215; or PBT at least 550).

  6. Up to 3 scholarly publications. If the publications are written by more than one author, a declaration of authorship and of the contribution of the applicant should be submitted.
