Scholarship Description:

Royal Society Africa Prize and Rising Star Africa Prize Awards 2021 for Africans: The call for nomination is open for the Royal Society Africa Prize and Rising Star Africa Prize Awards for research scientists based in Africa who through their researches are making significant innovative contributions to the advancement of sciences.

The grants are to support research projects from researchers based in Africa. The Royal Society Africa offers a grant of £15,000 to the winners to be used for research projects and £2,000 as a personal prize for the recipient while the Royal Society Rising Star Africa Prize is to recognize early-career research scientists based in Africa making innovative contribution to the physical, mathematical and engineering sciences.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Royal Society Africa Prize awards £15,000 to the winners to be used for research projects and £2,000 as a personal prize.
  • Royal Society Rising Star Africa Prize awards £14,000 to support research projects and a personal gift of £1,000.

Eligible Nationalities:

African countries students are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Royal Society Africa Prize and Rising Star Africa Prize Awards 2021 for Africans:

  • Recipients must be early-career researchers nominated by senior academics and members of national academies of the science.
  • The project and nominee should be linked with an African centre of excellence, which would normally be a university, or equivalent research centre.
  • Nominators should ensure that their nominees have not yet reached full professorship status.
  • Recipients are to note that grants are made to be spent on the research project as stated by the Royal Society’s Flexi-grant system. Th society should be notified of any alteration to the project.

Application Procedure:

Applicants for the Royal Society Africa Prize and Rising Star Africa Prize Awards 2021 are to be nominated by a senior academics and members of the national academies of science through the nomination link. Nominators are required to submit two referees for the nominee.
