Roehampton University is delighted to offer three fully funded  Ph.D. studentships starting 1st October 2017. International applicants are eligible to apply for these studentships.

The main objective of the university is to provide high quality, comprehensive educational and training opportunities that are compatible to changing needs of the students.

Roehampton University is the most research intensive modern university in the UK (REF 2014) and has an excellent research track record in all its 10 academic departments. Research students are welcomed as full members of our thriving research environment. Students also benefit from the huge range of research events and facilities available in London.

Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Degree Level: Studentships are available for pursuing Ph.D. programme.

Available Subject: Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to contributing to their home community through their planned research project or area of study, and through their future career plans. in order to meet these aims, suitable projects may be, for example, in education, human rights, theology/philosophy, other topics relevant to justice, community service, environmental development, but this is only an indicative list; no disciplinary areas are excluded, and specific projects and intentions will be assessed in relation to the broad criterion of making a contribution to the student’s home community.

Scholarship Award: Studentship covers: Fees at overseas rates; Stipend at Research Council UK rates, currently £16,057 (tax-free) and Contribution to research project costs. Studentships are for 3 years, subject to annual assessments of   satisfactory progress.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these studentships:
Ph.D. studentships are available for new overseas students, starting 1st October 2017. The studentships are for the support of three candidates with a strong academic record and the potential for academic excellence at a doctoral level. Preference will be given to candidates from lower or middle-income countries.

Eligible Nationalities: International applicants are eligible to apply for these studentships. Preference will be given to candidates from lower or middle-income countries.

Application Procedure: Application stage 1:  Prior to submitting a full application, candidates should contact a potential academic supervisor at Roehampton to discuss their project ideas.

Application stage 2:  Applications should be submitted to pgresearch-at-roehampton.ac.uk. Deadline:  Monday 5th December 2016.

Full application requirements

  • A completed Ph.D. application form and other standard application documents

  • A covering letter outlining why the candidate is interested in studying for a Ph.D., why they are applying to Roehampton, how their project and future career plans will contribute to their home community, and confirming all nationalities held by the candidate (max. 500 words).
