Anzisha Prize for Young African EntrepreneursThe Anzisha Prize, an initiative of the African Leadership Academy (ALA) Centre for Entrepreneurial Leadership in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation, is searching for Africa’s next top entrepreneurs. $75,000 USD will be awarded to winners.

The Anzisha Prize seeks to award young innovators who have developed and implemented innovative solutions to challenges facing their communities. The Anzisha Prize is funded by a generous grant from the MasterCard Foundation.

Eligibility
To be eligible:

  • You must be between the ages of 15 and 22 years old.

  • Your business or project must be up and running. The Anzisha Prize is not for great ideas or business plans – you must have already started, and be able to prove it!

  • Your business, invention or social project can be in any field or industry (science and technology, civil society, arts and culture, sports, etc.). Any kind of venture is welcome to apply.

  • Groups or teams can apply (for example, maybe you have 2 or 3 co-founders who started your business or project together), however you must choose one person to apply for the prize, on behalf of the group. This individual must be one of the founding members.


SELECTION CRITERIA:
To be selected, applicants will be judged on the following:

  • Impact: Are you affecting the lives of others? Efforts have a demonstrated, measurable and positive social and economic outcome.

  • Ingenuity: Is your project unique or innovative? Applicants take a new or better approach to a pressing problem or business opportunity within their community.

  • Scalability: Do you have the potential to create jobs? Does your business or social project have the potential to grow or be replicated with support and investment.

  • Leadership Potential: Do you have the qualities to be a role model for Africa’s youth.

Citizens of ALL African countries

Participating Institutions
The African Leadership Academy (ALA) Centre for Entrepreneurial Leadership; AND
The MasterCard Foundation.

Fields of study
Innovations (businesses, projects, inventions, etc) in ALL FIELDS of study will be considered - including science and technology, civil society, arts and culture, sports, etc.

Number of awards
For the current edition, twelve (12) finalists will be selected from across Africa. In the previous editions, fifteen (15) finalists used to be selected.

Sponsorship duration
A week-long entrepreneurship workshop and conference

Scholarship benefits
Twelve finalists from across Africa will win an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa to be a part of a week-long entrepreneurship workshop and conference at the African Leadership Academy campus on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

The grand prize winners, selected from these finalists, will share prizes worth $75,000 USD.

Anzisha Fellows are supported for life as part of African Leadership Academy’s approach to youth development.

Winning the prize is just the first step. Thereafter, mentorship, consulting and community gatherings become part of the fellow experience in the years that follow as you and your venture grow from strength the strength.

Semi-finalists will be chosen on a rolling admissions basis, so get your application in early! If you have a very strong application, ALA could be visiting you very soon!

The application deadline for the current edition of the Prize is 15 April 2015.

PLEASE NOTE:
You are strongly encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible. ALA cannot evaluate applications that arrive after the deadline.

Finalists will be announced in August 2015. And the Prize Week and Awards ceremony will take place in November 2015.
