Scholarship Description: The Lancaster University is offering a number of faculty postgraduate scholarships for international students. These scholarships are available for students wishing to study for a master or PhD degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Degree Level: Scholarships are available to pursue to undertake a masters programme followed by a PhD programme.

Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded within the faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Applications for bursaries can be made in the following disciplines in the postgraduate study:

Scholarship Benefits: A variety of scholarships will be awarded up to the level of a fees bursary plus £15,000 maintenance.

Eligible Nationalities: UK/EU and overseas students are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

Eligibility Criteria: All full-time and part-time students with an offer of a place of study

Faculty Research Scholarships 2018-2019

The terms of the award are as follows:

  • Award holders must be registered on a doctoral programme in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

  • Where an applicant has been made a conditional offer of a place on a programme, any award will be conditional upon the programme conditions being met.

  • Faculty Research Scholarships are made subject to continuing satisfactory progress and may be withdrawn at any time if progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory.

  • Scholarships will not be paid to holders of UK Research Council studentships, or the equivalent thereof. The Faculty reserves the right to withhold the unpaid portion of any bursary in the event that the holder succeeds in securing alternative external funding at any time during the period covered by the award.



  • Award holders will normally be required to undertake work in their Department, as a condition of their award. This varies depending on the level of support:



  • Fees only award Zero hours per week

  • Fees plus £5,000 up to 3 hours per week

  • Fees plus £5,000 <up to 6 hours per week

  • Applicants wishing to defer the start of their programme must apply in writing to the Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies for permission to do so.  Any deferral beyond January 2019 will result in the loss of the award for that academic year.

  • If an applicant is unable to take up their award in the year in which it was awarded, it will be rescinded and they will have to re-apply to the competition in the following year, should an award be available. Applicants should inform the Faculty Postgraduate Admissions Office of their decision at the earliest possible stage, in writing, by letter or e-mail.

  • Students who withdraw or are excluded from their programme of study after registration will be liable to pay back a proportion of their maintenance award. This amount will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.


Faculty 1+3 Scholarships 2018

The terms of the award are as follows:

  • Award holders must be registered on a Masters programme and hold an offer to study on a PhD programme, both within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

  • Where an applicant has been made a conditional offer of a place on a programme, any award will be conditional upon the programme conditions being met.

  • 1+3 Awards are made subject to continuing satisfactory progress and may be withdrawn at any time if progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory.

  • Scholarships will not be paid to holders of UK Research Council studentships or the equivalent thereof. The Faculty reserves the right to withhold the unpaid portion of any bursary in the event that the holder succeeds in securing alternative external funding at any time during the period covered by the award.
