University of Oslo PhD Research Fellowship in Semiconductor Physics, Norway

University of Oslo is offering a PhD research fellowship in Semiconductor Physics at the Department of Physics. If the successful candidate has a good knowledge of one Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish), the fellowship will be for a period of 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work (teaching responsibilities at the Department of Physics). Otherwise, the fellowship will be for a period of 3 years, with no compulsory work. Starting date is no later than 31.12.2014. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in physics, chemistry, material science, nanothechnology or related field. Women are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is 22 October, 2014.

  • Fellowship is awarded in Semiconductor Physics at the Department of Physics.

  • Fellowship is available for pursuing PhD research programme at University of Oslo.

  • University of Oslo, Norway is providing this Fellowship.

Eligibility:
-Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in physics, chemistry, material science, nanothechnology or related field.
-The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
-The fellowship requires admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The application to the PhD program must be submitted to the department no later than two months after taking up the position. For more information see here and here.

  • The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has initiated a cross-disciplinary research program on functional oxides, FOXHOUND, as a strategic effort to support scientific excellence in materials and energy related research at the University of Oslo. FOXHOUND merges key complementary competences within structural and materials chemistry, ionics and electrochemistry, semiconductor and structural physics into one targeted effort towards functional oxides. As a part of FOXHOUND effort, the present PhD position deals with band gap engineering in oxide heterostructures in particular using combinations in ZnO-CdO-MgO system. The focus is on phase separation, lattice mismatch and strain accumulation issues challenging the synthesis of multiple quantum wells (MQWs) with reliable 2-D electron gas properties. Notably, the emphasis for this position is on material synthesis, while the characterization of samples – structural, optical and electrical – is done in cooperation with experts specialized in these fields.

  • One PhD research fellowship will be available.
