Scholarship Value and Duration
- Total Value: $15,000 per year
- $5,000 per session (paid in three installments)
Duration:
- Minimum: 2 consecutive sessions
- Maximum: 3 consecutive sessions
Students may receive up to two OGS awards at the Master’s level and up to four at the Doctoral level (maximum of six lifetime awards).

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), applicants must meet the following requirements:
For All Applicants:
- Be registered or intend to register in a full-time graduate program at the University of Toronto.
- Have achieved at least an A- (80%) average in each of the last two completed academic years.
- Not currently receiving funding from other government programs such as the Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS).
Additional Conditions:
- Canadian citizens and permanent residents must apply through their U of T graduate unit.
- International students may apply through specific eligible graduate units (OGS International stream).
Application Procedure
The OGS application is managed internally by each graduate unit (department). Students should:
- Check with their graduate unit for specific internal deadlines (these vary by department).
- Submit an OGS application through the University of Toronto’s Graduate Awards System (GAS).
- Include required documents such as:
- Academic transcripts
- Research proposal or statement of intent
- References (usually 2 academic referees)
- Await results from the graduate unit, which nominates successful applicants for the OGS.
Note: Each graduate unit sets its own internal deadline, typically between December and March for the upcoming academic year. Applicants should confirm the exact date directly with their department.
