Informatics Global PhD Scholarships 2023-2024 is open for International Students . The scholarship allows PhD level program(s) in the field of Informatics taught at University of Edinburgh . The deadline of the scholarship is expired at 27 Jan 2023.

School of Informatics at University of Edinburgh is offering PhD programme for students who have a strong academic record of accomplishment at undergraduate or Masters level. You could be selected to receive a full PhD scholarship in the academic year 2023-2024. Applicants who submit a programme application to one of the eligible Informatics PhD programmes will automatically be considered for this scholarship.

The University of Edinburgh is a public research university based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Granted a royal charter by King James VI in 1582 and officially opened in 1583, it is one of Scotland's four ancient universities and the sixth-oldest university in continuous operation in the English-speaking world.

Benefits for Informatics Global PhD Scholarship:

Informatics Global PhD Scholars will receive full financial support for the duration of their PhD studies, for up to 3 years. This will include:

• Full funding of all tuition fees, including overseas fees if applicable

• An annual stipend at the rate set by the UKRI (indicatively, stipend levels for 2022/23 are £17,668; amount TBC for September 2023 entry);

• An additional research support fund of £2,000 per year for the first three years. This can be used for a variety of purposes approved by your supervisor including, but not restricted to, purchase of a laptop, attending conferences where you present a paper, and specialist software or equipment.

This scholarship is open to international students.

Eligibility Criteria for Informatics Global PhD Scholarship:

Eligibility

Applicants who submit a programme application to one of the eligible Informatics PhD programmes will automatically be considered for this scholarship; there are no restrictions based on nationality or domicile. 

Applicants must have applied to study full-time on one of the following eligible programmes within the School of Informatics:

  • PhD Informatics: AIAI: Automated Reasoning, Agents, Data Intensive Research, Knowledge Management
  • PhD Informatics: ANC: Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Computational Biology 
  • PhD Informatics: LFCS: Foundations of Computer Science, Databases, Software & Systems Modelling
  • PhD Informatics: ICSA: Comp. Architecture, Compilation & System Software, Networks & Communication 
  • PhD Informatics: IPAB: Robotics, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics and Animation
  • PhD Informatics: ILCC: Language Processing, Speech Technology, Information Retrieval, Cognition 

Candidates must also meet certain minimum requirements for English language competency.

Criteria

Candidates should be in receipt of, or expected to obtain, a high academic award from their most recent degree. In practice, this means a 1st class UK degree or a distinction at UK Masters level in a relevant discipline. Students with non-UK qualifications should check the equivalence of their degrees.

We are keen to increase our PGR community of under-represented minorities at the Informatics Graduate School and particularly welcome applications from female and black applicants and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Application Procedure for Informatics Global PhD Scholarship:

Eligible applicants will be considered automatically for the Informatics PhD Scholarship as part of the School’s PGR selection process.

Applicants wishing to be considered for the IGPS (for entry in the academic year 2023/24) must submit a programme application via the EUCLID application portal. The deadline for submitting an application is:

Before applying via the EUCLID PhD application form, you should ideally contact an academic supervisor in the School of Informatics, discuss your research interest, and obtain their agreement to supervise you. When you have found a supervisor, you must complete and submit an application for PhD admission in the research institute of your chosen supervisor.
