    The Mérieux Foundation and IRD are excited to announce a collaborative PhD scholarship opportunity for the 2024-2025 academic year. This prestigious scholarship offers:

    • Funding: Up to €50,000 over 36 months to support your living expenses. The monthly stipend is based on the local junior researcher salary scale (details in the link down below).
    • Research Experience: Gain valuable experience conducting your PhD thesis in a professional research setting. You'll develop essential research skills for your future career.

    Focus and Collaboration:

    • Thesis Project: Your doctoral program must be part of a collaborative project between IRD and Mérieux Foundation.
    • Strengthening Expertise: The project should aim to enhance the diagnostic and research capabilities of laboratories within the GABRIEL network, with a focus on Rodolphe Mérieux Labs.
    • IRD Collaboration: Your thesis work should demonstrate clear connections with IRD's research expertise to maximize the benefits of their involvement.
    • Long-Term Vision: The selection committee will consider the potential for your long-term contribution to the lab where you receive your training.

    Scholarship Agreement:

    Upon selection, a formal agreement will be signed outlining the specifics of the financial support and the responsibilities of each party. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the host laboratory's administration for the sole purpose of financing your PhD research.

    Eligibility Criteria for Merieux Foundation - IRD Joint PhD Scholarship:

    Eligibility Criteria for Host Research Laboratory:

    Responsibilities:

    1. Scientific Guidance: The laboratory commits to providing the PhD student with the necessary scientific supervision to ensure a professional doctoral program experience.
    2. Social Security: The laboratory agrees to provide the scholarship recipient with social security coverage for the duration of the award.
    3. Scholarship Management: The laboratory agrees to manage the scholarship funds collaboratively through a signed agreement. Overhead costs are not covered by the scholarship and can be considered as the laboratory's co-funding contribution.

    Application Requirements:

    Eligibility:

    • Doctoral Enrollment: Applicants must be registered PhD students in a French doctoral school for the 2024-2025 academic year. Applicants enrolled in co-tutelle programs with a home country doctoral school are also eligible.
    • Thesis Completion: Students who are not actively completing their current thesis are eligible to apply.

    Application Procedure for Merieux Foundation - IRD Joint PhD Scholarship:

    Application Requirements:

    Required Documents:
    1. Curriculum Vitae: Include your professional background and qualifications.
    2. Motivation Letter (1 page maximum): Briefly explain your interest in this scholarship and your research goals. State the French doctoral school where you'll be enrolled and the names of your thesis supervisors (Director(s) or co-director(s)) from both the GABRIEL Network Lab and the IRD Research team.
    3. Thesis Project (3 pages maximum): Provide a detailed description of your proposed research project.
    4. Letter from Host Laboratory Director (1 page maximum): This letter should outline your expected career path within the host laboratory upon completion of your PhD.
    5. Letter of Commitment (if applicable): If your thesis involves collaboration with an international institution, include a letter of commitment from that institution.
    6. Letters of Commitment from Thesis Supervisors: Include letters confirming commitment from all your thesis director(s) and co-director(s).
    Important Dates:
    • Application Opens: March 14, 2024
    • Application Deadline: April 30, 2024 (be sure to meet this deadline!)
    • Interview Notification: Shortlisted candidates will be informed by email by May 13, 2024
    • Agreement Signing: September 2024
