This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria for Berea College Scholarship:

Testing Requirements for International Students at Berea College

Demonstrate Your English Language Proficiency:

All international applicants, including those from English-speaking countries, must submit their scores from one of the following standardized tests:

  • IELTS (minimum score: 6.0 overall, with no subscore below 5.0)
  • Duolingo English Test (minimum score: 95)
  • TOEFL iBT (minimum score: 68)
  • TOEFL PBT (minimum score: 520) [Not accepted anymore - consider removing this]
  • SAT (minimum combined score: 980; use Berea's School Code: 1060)
  • ACT (minimum score: 19; use Berea's School Code: 1492)

Unfortunately, the TOEFL ITP is not accepted.

Submit Your Scores Electronically:

Upload a copy of your official test report directly to your online application. Even if you request official scores to be sent to Berea from the testing center, you still need to upload a copy.

International students are not eligible for a test-optional application.

1. Free Online Application

Start by completing the Berea College Application for Admission for International Students. There's no application fee! Apply online at your convenience.

2. Share Your Story (2-5 Page Essay)

Berea College wants  to get to know you! Write a personal essay that reflects on:

  • Your educational and life journey: Share your experiences and what brought you to this point.
  • Your future aspirations: Describe your goals after graduation and how you plan to use your education.
  • Returning Home (or Not): Explain your plans for returning or not returning to your home country after your studies.
  • Making a Positive Impact: Showcase how you've contributed to your community in the past.

This essay is a crucial part of our review process. Be detailed and let your unique voice shine through! Once you've submitted your online application, you can upload your essay to the application portal.

3. Submit Your Academic Records

We need to see proof of your secondary education. This might include:

  • Leaving exam results
  • A-Level or O-Level results
  • National Higher Diploma results
  • West African Examination results

Make sure these documents are:

  • Translated into English
  • Certified copies by school officials

Upload these documents electronically through the application portal.

4. Get a Recommendation from a Teacher

A strong teacher recommendation can strengthen your application. Have a teacher who knows you well complete the official recommendation form through the online portal. If unavailable, you can download the form and upload a completed copy. We also accept written recommendations (preferably typed) in English, even if not on our official form.

5. Financial Resources Recommendation Form

Someone who can speak to your financial situation and background (like a school administrator, employer, or religious leader) should complete this form. This recommendation should NOT come from a close relative. The form should be written in English and can be submitted online.
