Application Procedure for University of Nottingham in UK Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship:

Ready to Apply?

This guide will walk you through the application process for postgraduate taught courses (Master's degrees excluding PhD and Research Masters).

Not a Taught Course?

Before You Apply

  1. Check Course Requirements: Academic qualifications vary by program. Details are listed on each course page. Relevant work or life experience may also be considered. An undergraduate degree is typically required, but exceptions might be made for experience-based qualifications on a case-by-case basis. Contact the department offering your program for more information. International and EU students can find information about alternative qualifications on the university's country-specific webpages.
  2. English Language Requirements: If English isn't your first language, you'll need to meet specific English language requirements. Each course page details the IELTS score needed, with alternative qualifications accepted as well. For those needing to improve their English skills, consider a presessional course at the Centre for English Language Education.
  3. Key Dates and Deadlines: Teaching for most taught courses starts in late September, with some offering alternative start dates. Check the course page for details. While applications are typically open year-round, places are limited, and programs can fill up. The university aims to decide on your application within six weeks.
International Students:* Apply as early as possible to ensure enough time for your student visa application. If accepted, you'll need to confirm your offer and meet any conditions by early September (or as directed by admissions).

Funding Deadlines:

The Deadline for Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship is 17th April 2024.

  2. Required Documents: Upload scanned copies of your degree certificates, transcripts, and any other supporting documents. The university cannot assess applications without them. Don't send original copies by mail.
  3. References and Personal Statement: Depending on the program, you might need two references (one for academic ability) and a personal statement. Check the university's guidance for what to include and how to format these documents. References should be dated within two years of your application and signed on letterhead if not submitted directly by your referee. *Applications for teacher training are made through DfE Apply, and MA Social Work applications go through UCAS.

Application Fee

There's a £50 application fee for taught courses. Your application won't be assessed until the fee is paid and processed. Meet application deadlines and early course closure deadlines to ensure your fee is processed on time. It can take up to 5 days to process the fee, so factor that in when considering application and funding deadlines.

After You Apply

  1. Track Your Application: You can log in to the online system anytime to track the progress of your application.
  2. Application Decisions: The university will notify you of their decision via email and outline the next steps. They might request additional information to complete the assessment.
  3. Accepting Offers, Accommodation, etc.: Find details on accepting your offer, finding accommodation, and other helpful tips in the university's guidance for applicants.

International Students - Tuition Fee Deposit

If you're an international student starting a full-time taught course, you'll likely need to pay a tuition fee deposit of at least £2,000 as part of the visa application process. This requirement can be waived for students fully sponsored by a recognized sponsor. If you have full sponsorship for your course fees, email the university a copy of your sponsorship letter with your full name and application ID. The university only accepts sponsorship letters from recognized entities like governments, businesses, universities, trusts, and charities, not friends or family members.

Selection Process:

  • Focus on Impact: Your application will be evaluated based on your vision and a concrete plan for developing a solution that tackles major challenges in your home country. This could be economic, environmental, social, or political.
  • Connect Your Studies: Strong applications will clearly demonstrate how your chosen program aligns with your solution plan and empowers you to achieve your goals.
  • Traditional Criteria Considered: Applications that showcase the "Developing Solutions" spirit will then be reviewed based on traditional scholarship criteria, including your reasons for choosing Nottingham and your academic achievements.
  • Prepare Well, Meet Deadlines: Take enough time to craft strong responses within the given word limit (specified in the application). Applications exceeding the limit might not be reviewed.

Scholarship Details:

  • Offer Acceptance Not Required: You don't need to accept your program offer before applying for the scholarship. However, awards are only granted to students who accept their offer to study at the university.
  • Decision Timeline: You'll be notified about the scholarship application outcome by the end of June 2024.
  • Award Disbursement: If awarded, the scholarship amount will be deducted from your tuition fees directly. The university won't provide direct cash payments.
  • Combining Scholarships: Generally, Developing Solutions scholarships cannot be combined with Regional Scholarships. However, in rare cases, you might be eligible for Developing Solutions alongside another scholarship offered by your academic school or for sports achievements. The university aims to avoid double-awarding scholarships, but exceptions are possible as long as the combined amount doesn't exceed 100% of your tuition.
