Develop industry-ready skills in 3D modelling, texturing, lighting, and visual effects production, with a strong focus on shot development and digital cinematography. The programme uses a project “pipeline” approach so work created in one course is reused and expanded across the curriculum.
The 3D Modelling and Visual Effects Production program at Humber Polytechnic is designed to equip students with essential skills in 3D modelling, texturing, lighting, and visual effects production. Emphasizing shot development and digital cinematography, the curriculum adopts a project “pipeline” approach, allowing students to build upon their work as they progress through the program.
Curriculum focus: The program covers critical areas such as modelling and look development, lighting and rendering, and production-based visual effects shot development, all interconnected through a series of projects across various courses.
As you advance through the program, you will consolidate your skills through production-style work, resulting in a final portfolio that showcases your technical abilities and creative decision-making in modelling, lighting, and shot development.
Admission to the program is primarily based on your portfolio and English proficiency. Specific GRE/GMAT/GPA requirements are not outlined. Applicants are required to submit a portfolio consisting of 6–8 pieces of original creative work that reflects their artistic interests and technical skills. This may include graphic designs, films, illustrations, sketches, and examples of 3D-related work. Familiarity with digital design software or 3D animation tools is beneficial.
For two pieces of work in your portfolio, include a description of 150 words explaining your process, the software utilized, and your creative rationale.
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through recognized tests, with the following minimum scores:
Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education must provide a credential evaluation as part of the application process.
Graduates of the 3D Modelling and Visual Effects Production program can pursue various career paths in the creative industry, including roles in animation studios, film and television production, video game development, and advertising. The skills acquired during the program prepare students to meet the demands of the evolving digital landscape and contribute effectively to diverse projects within the visual effects and 3D modelling sectors.
