The Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Health Research at the University of Oxford is designed to enhance your skills in research design, data analysis, and critical appraisal. This programme focuses on applying evidence-based practices to improve healthcare outcomes. Offered part-time, it accommodates your professional commitments while providing a blend of online and in-person learning experiences through Oxford’s Department for Continuing Education.

What you'll study

The PGCert consists of two compulsory modules and one optional module, delivered over an eight-week blended learning cycle:

• Online learning (pre-Oxford): Start with self-directed study using a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to complete introductory activities.
• Supported teaching in Oxford: Participate in a week of face-to-face teaching and learning support in Oxford.
• Post-Oxford study: Continue with distance learning that includes self-directed and supported activities via the VLE, such as discussion forums and practical tasks.
• Final study and assessment: Conclude each module with a period of self-directed personal study, followed by the electronic submission of assignments.

The flexible structure allows you to choose the timing of your optional module within the overall one to two-year study period.

Entry requirements

• A first-class or strong upper second-class undergraduate degree with honours in a relevant discipline; or
• An equivalent professional qualification in a medicine-related field with post-qualification experience; or
• Successful completion of the final year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), or an equivalent qualification.
• Applicants from the USA should aim for a minimum GPA of 3.6/4.0.
