The Biomedical Engineering - Early Assurance Program at Drexel University offers a unique combined pathway for exceptional high school students to secure provisional admission into an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, along with an early assurance track toward medical school. This program is designed to cultivate a strong foundation in engineering, biology, and the sciences, effectively preparing students for the subsequent BS/MD sequence.

What You'll Study

The Early Assurance pathway is structured to guide students through a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum in Biomedical Engineering, followed by progression into medical school for those who continue to meet the academic and program standards.

Undergraduate Academic Focus (Biomedical Engineering):

• Core courses in biomedical engineering and foundational sciences
• Progressive laboratory science courses aligned with program expectations, including biology, chemistry, and physics
• Advising and performance monitoring to ensure eligibility for the next stage of the sequence

Majors Eligible for the Program:

• Biological Sciences
• Chemistry (BA only)
• Biomedical Engineering (four-year program only)

Progression Expectation: Students are expected to maintain academic progress and complete the necessary science coursework during high school and/or early undergraduate studies, in line with the program’s admissions and progression criteria.

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements

• Minimum GPA: 3.5 on a 4.0 weighted scale (subject to change)
• SAT: Minimum combined score of 1420 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math)
• OR ACT: Minimum composite score of 31
• SAT Subject Tests: Strongly recommended, preferably in the sciences (all subject tests will be reviewed)
• High School Science Preparation: Must be on track to graduate and complete four years of laboratory sciences, including one year each of biology, chemistry, and physics

English Requirements

• TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 79
• IELTS Academic: Minimum score of 6.5

General Requirements

• Submit the Common Application or the Coalition Application along with all required documents
• Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, seeking first-year admission
• Must be on track to graduate from an American high school
