What you'll study

Doctoral training and milestones

• Supervision: Receive continuous guidance from your assigned UvA supervisor and, if applicable, a supervisory team.
• Research training: Participate in doctoral education activities, including workshops on methods, academic writing, and research skills offered by the institute and research groups.
• Progress and assessment: Undergo periodic evaluations of research advancements and complete essential doctoral milestones in line with UvA regulations.
• Thesis: Conclude your studies with a doctoral dissertation based on original research, culminating in a formal defense.

Entry requirements

To apply for the doctoral program, you must secure a UvA professor as your supervisor. Admission requires a relevant Master’s degree from an accredited institution. If your qualifications differ, such as holding a non-Dutch degree, you may need to seek an exemption from the educational requirements prior to application.
