International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2021 November Round is available to undertake Masters level programs at East China Normal University.

II SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS

A. Scholarship for Ph.D.'s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (PhDTCSOL)

Commences September 2021 and provides a scholarship for maximum of four academic years. Applicants shall be Master degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Lanuage, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Linguistics, or education-related majors, and have a minimum score of 200 in HSK Test (Level 6) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Applicants should have work experience in Chinese language teaching and related fields for more than 2 years. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching insistution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.

B. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

Commences September 2021 and provides scholarship for maximum two academic years.  Applicants shall be Bachelor degree holders, and have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching insistution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect. 

B. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

Commences September 2021 and provides scholarship for maximum four academic years. Applicants must have graduated with a senior high school diploma, and have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). 

C. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

Commences September 2021, and provides scholarship for maximum 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

 i.  TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 4), while HSKK test score required.

 ii. Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 5) and 60 in HSKK test (intermediate level).

 iii. Chinese Language Study

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK test (Level 3 ). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

D.Scholarship for One-Semester Study

Commences either in September 2021 or March 2022, and provides scholarship of maximum 5 months. Applicants holding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

 i. TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 4), while HSKK test score required.

 ii. Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 5) and 60 in HSKK test (intermediate level).

E. Scholarship for Four-Week Study

Commences either on July or December of 2021, and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants holding X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

i. Chinese Language plus Home-stay Experience in a Chinese Family, Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes

An HSK test score is required. The program may be organized and applied for by a recommending institution with 10-15 participants per group. Prior to the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made in consultation with host institutions and such plan shall be submitted to CLEC for approval. 

Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants shall be

a) Non-Chinese citizens

b) Be in good physical and mental conditions and with good academic performance and conduct.

c) Committed to Chinese language education and related work.

d) Between the ages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2021. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45, while undergraduate student applicants shall not be over 25.

Application Procedure:

The scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (four-week study students are excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses. 

a) Tuition is under the overall planning and utilization of host institutions to provide teaching and management of scholarship students organizing cultural and social activities, as well as organizing Chinese language proficiency tests. 

b) Accommodation fee is under the overall planning and utilization of host institutions to provide students with in-campus apartments (usually double rooms). Students hoping to live off-campus should apply to the university and receive the off-campus permission from the university. Then the accommdation allowance for PhD student is RMB1,000 per month per person and other scholarship students is RMB700 per month per person. 

c) The monthly allowance for undergraduates, one-academic-year study students and one-semester students is 2,500 CNY per person. For MTCSOL student, the monthly allowance is 3,000 CNY per person. For PhDTCSOL student, the monthly allowance is 3,500 CNY per person. 

Students are required to complete enrollment procedures for every semester within stipulated period; otherwise, their scholarship may be cancelled. Students who are enrolled before the 15th (or on the 15th) of the month are entitled to the full allowance of that month while those enrolled after the 15th of that month are only entitled to half of the amount.

During the study period, for any student who is absent from China due to personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding winter and summer holidays), the allowance during absence will be suspended.

For students who suspend study or drop out of school for personal reasons, or who are given disciplinary punishment by the host institutions, allowance will be terminated on the date of such suspension, dropping out or when the decision of such punishment is announced.

The living allowance for the month of graduation will be granted half a month after the date of graduation or expiration day of the study confirmed by host institutions.

d) Comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by the host institutions in accordance with relevant regulations of studying in China stipulated by the Ministry of Education of China. The insurance fee per person is 160 CNY for four-week study students, 400 CNY for one-semester students, and 800 CNY per year for students engaged in the program longer than one academic year.

V APPLICATION PROCEDURES 

Online registration will be available from March 1st, 2021. Please log on to International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website  (http://cis.chinese.cn) to apply. For degree program applicants, students also need to apply through online application system (http://lxs.ecnu.edu.cn/application.php). 

1. Please log on to search for Recommending Institutions:

I. Confucius Institutes and Confucius classrooms which have been in operation for more than six months. For more information, please refer to www.hanban.org.

II. Testing centers for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK which have the right to recommend Confucius Institute Scholarship candidates. For information, please refer to www.chinesetest.cn. (ECNU is eligible to recommend)

III. Oversea organizers of Chinese Bridge Competition: education and cultural offices (groups) of China’s overseas embassies (consulates), Confucius Institute, and relevant educational institutions. For further information, please consult chinesebridge@chinese.cn.

2. To register and upload application materials online; and track the application progress, comments and result. 

3. Host institutions will review the eligibility of applicants (An interview is required for ECNU degree and visiting student program applicants), and submit a list of pre-admitted students to CLEC.

4. CLEC will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. Decisions will be made based on HSK and HSKK scores and levels, and in consideration of country distribution as well as other factors. The results will be published about three months before school starts. 

5. Scholarship holders need to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the scholarship certificate online, and register at host institutions on the designated date as per the letter of admission. 

VI CHINESE BRIDGE AWARD RECIPIENT POLICIES 

Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2021 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate shall log onto the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website and submit documents to relevant host institutions upon presentation of their scholarship certificates. VII OTHERS

1. Please contact host institutions for curriculum and course listings.

2. Applicants shall be familiar with the specific criteria and deadlines for registration, and submit necessary documents according to specific requirements.

3. Degree students are subject to the annual assessment according to the Annual Appraisal Procedures of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.

4. Those who failed to register on time, failed to pass the health assessment, dropped out midway and/or suspended will be deprived of scholarship.
