Nagasaki University is offering several scholarships for privately financed international students in Japan upon arrival. These  are partially funded scholarships with different values.

Scholarships for Privately Financed Foreign Students in Japan (Upon Arrival)

There are two categories of scholarships available to privately financed foreign students after arriving in Japan:

1. Scholarships you can apply for directly:
  • Nitori International Scholarship Foundation:
    1. Amount: ¥50,000 per month
    2. Duration: One year
    3. Renewal: Not possible
    4. Application periods: September and February
    5. Language: Japanese
    6. Requirements: Open to all nationalities, age limitations apply

  • Sato Yo International Scholarship Foundation:
    1. Amount: Undergraduate students - ¥120,000/month, Graduate students - ¥180,000/month

    6. Requirements: Open to students from specific Asian countries (listed on website), Doctoral students ineligible

    • YEH KUO-SHII Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students:
      1. Amount: Undergraduate & Graduate students - ¥50,000/month
      2. Duration: One year
      3. Renewal: Not possible
      4. Application period: June
      5. Language: Japanese
      6. Requirements: Open to all nationalities, specific undergraduate programs only
    • Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation Scholarship:
      1. Amount: Undergraduate students - ¥100,000/month, Graduate students - ¥140,000/month
      2. Duration: Maximum two years
      3. Renewal: Not possible
      4. Application period: Late August
      5. Language: Japanese
      6. Requirements: Open to all nationalities, age limit under 45
    • ASSURAN International Scholarship:
      1. Amount: Graduate students - ¥100,000/month (undergraduates not offered)
      2. Duration: Maximum two years
      3. Renewal: Not possible
      4. Application period: (Varies by year, check with your school)
      5. Language: Japanese
      6. Requirements: Students from Asian countries only, age limit under 35
    • Heiwa Nakajima Foundation Scholarship:
      1. Amount: Undergraduate students - ¥120,000/month, Graduate students - ¥150,000/month
      2. Duration: One year
      3. Renewal: Not possible
      4. Application period: October
      5. Language: Japanese
      6. Requirements: Open to all nationalities
    • Otsuka Toshimi Foundation Scholarship: (For graduate students only)
      1. Amount: Varies depending on the applicant (¥1,000,000 - ¥2,000,000 per year)
      2. Duration: Maximum two years
      3. Renewal: Not possible
      4. Application periods: Direct application (March), University recommendation (November)
      5. Language: Japanese (English application with Japanese translation required)
      6. Requirements: Open to all nationalities, majoring in biomedical sciences and/or business management
    • Matsufuji Scholarship:
      1. Amount: Undergraduate & Graduate students - ¥20,000/month
      2. Duration: One year
      3. Renewal: Not possible
      4. Application period: April
      5. Language: Japanese
      6. Requirements: Open to all nationalities

    Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship:

    Qualification criteria vary depending on the type of scholarship. Scholarship notifications will be sent via email and posted on the Bulletin Board near the Student Exchange Support Division, so please be sure to check your email regularly.
