What is thinning?

Thinning is the important forestry operation in which excessive number of trees from the forest is removed from crop during its early stage in order to reduce competition for light, water, nutrients and space helping the remaining standing trees.

Importance of thinning:

With the help of thinning we can exercise an effective control of the growth rate of final crop i.e we can maintain a uniform growth rate of the final crop throughout its life. The wood of trees, which maintain a uniform growth rate, is better in quality than having uneven growth rate.
