The School of Life Science offers an one year M.Sc. Degree in Biotechnology and this course can be taken up by Biotechnology professionals and students who have a basic background in life science and wish to do further studies in drug discovery, business and management, antibody technology and genome science. Course Details: The course is divided into 7 modules which are worth 20 credits each. However the summer research project has a value of 60 credits. The students have to complete 180 credits in total to complete the course. The course id divided into two semesters. The detailed modules are as follows: Business for Bio Sciences: helps to instill business and financial skills in professionals to enable them to perform successfully in the bioscience business sector. Molecular Biology: teaches theories in DNA techniques like PCR and cloning to produce fluorescent protein vectors. Product Development in Biotechnology: explores important features used to produce commercial products in bio production systems. Career Development and Research Skills: this is very beneficial for those who want to pursue further research as it develops skill in research writing, workshops and software instruction. Genome Science: include studies in functional genomics and gene identification through studying of genome science. Topics in Biotechnology: consist of seminars, studies and lectures in special areas of biotechnology like vaccine development, molecular microbiology and virology and monoclonal antibody technology. A Research Project has to be undertaken by candidates depending on their individual areas of interest, some important areas being plant, animal, and microbial technology. Entry Requirements: A candidate must have obtained at least a second class honours degree in any related science subject from a recognized institute given a status to carry out higher education. If a candidate does not fulfill this criterion he/she may also be eligible for the course if he/she has relevant work experience in the related field. For candidates who do not have English as their first language, they are required to have IELTS score of 6.5, TOEFL score of 575 if it is paper based or 232 if it is computer based. Fees: £5,720 for UK/EU students and £11,440 for International students.
