Beyond Borders Scholarships

Beyond Borders invites applications from PhD students worldwide studying borders and bordering phenomena in different regions of the world for Beyond Borders Scholarships. These scholarships support research about borders and boundaries in past and present times and promote interdisciplinary exchange in the social sciences and humanities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Beyond Borders Scholarships for International Students, applicants are expected to meet the following conditions:

• Applicants must be international students


• Applicants must be PhD students


• These scholarships are open to graduates of any university within or outside of ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius


• Applicants who intend to enroll full time for a Doctorate (PhD)


• Applicants who have commenced their doctoral study at ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, Hamburg Germany

Application Procedure

To apply for the Beyond Borders Scholarship:

1. Visit the Beyond Borders Scholarship website


2. Fill out the online application form and save it


3. Prepare a research proposal, research plan with time schedule, CV, and a copy of your university degree


4. Upload all required documents in PDF format at the end of the online application


5. Submit two letters of reference by university professors in the electronic form

Applications are due by March 1st.
