College of Notre Dame of Maryland

College of Notre Dame of Maryland was established in the year 1873 and is currently located in North Charles Street, downtown Baltimore. The founders of the College were five Sisters who were known as School Sisters of Notre Dame. In the year 1899 College of Notre Dame became the first Catholic women’s college in US to award the 4 year baccalaureate degree to its students. The College is a Catholic college providing education in the field of liberal arts to female students. In the year 2011, the College was included in the America’s Best Colleges list of ‘Great Schools, Great Prices’. The College of Notre Dame offers the following academic programs- undergraduate majors and minors, graduate level courses, a PhD degree, certificate programs and non-education programs on soft skills. Even though the Women’s college serves only females, the Weekend, Accelerated colleges and the Center for graduate studies provide co- educational programs. The Accelerated College for men and women deals exclusively in nursing and business topics and grants degree to students in less than 3 years. Weekend College offers programs for working men and women on part time basis. Graduate level programs in Education include- Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree, Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching degree, Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) degree and the PhD degree in Instructional Leadership for changing populations. Graduate programs in business and liberal arts include – Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, Master of Arts in contemporary communication, Master of Arts in Non profit Management (MNM) and Master of Arts in Leadership & Management. The college also offers the Master of Science in Nursing along with many pre-professional programs such as pre-law, pre-medical, pre-pharmacy and pre-veterinary. Certificate programs offered by College of Notre Dame include – Operation Teach, post graduation certificates in curriculum & instructions, leadership of non-profit organizations and Latin, accelerated certificate for teaching and certificate of advanced study in education. College of Notre Dame also offers twenty seven majors and the five-year Bachelor of Arts degree with MA and MAT programs respectively for undergraduate students.
