France Says It Will Welcome 30,000 Students from India by 2030

July 26, 2023 France has made a big announcement! They have a plan to welcome 30,000 students from India by the year 2030. This is a special plan to celebrate 25 years of friendship between France and India.

The big news was shared when the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, visited France. Right now, there are already many students from India in France. About 20,000 Indian students are expected to go to France by the end of 2025.

This plan will make the friendship between the two countries even stronger. It will help them understand each other better and work together more in the future.

France and India said in a statement, “We are making our friendship stronger by working together in education, science, technology, and culture. Our young people are talking to each other more, and many Indians are living in France. This will help us work together even more in the future.”

In 2021, there were 6,321 Indian students studying in France. This made India the 14th biggest country sending students to France. Before, France had a goal to have 10,000 Indian students by 2020.

Since 2016, the number of Indian students in France has grown by 92%. This is a very big increase! Because of this, France has made a new rule. Indian students who have a master's degree from any country and have studied in France for at least one semester can apply for a special visa. This visa will let them stay in the Schengen area for five years after they finish their studies.

A person from the French embassy in India said that this new visa is very important. It is a way to say thank you to the students for choosing France for their studies. It will also help France and the students stay connected.

The embassy person also said that new classes will be started for Indian students who do not speak French. These classes will teach them the French language and other subjects. This will help them join Bachelor programs taught in French.

The person explained, “If we want more students from countries like India, we need to welcome them as they are. Many of them do not speak French. In France, we do not speak English as much as people do in Germany and the Netherlands. French people are often shy to speak English.”

France is planning to start with 15-30 public universities. These universities will create new programs and classes. After two or three years, these programs and classes are expected to be able to continue on their own.
