Recipients can pursue any undergraduate program at the University of Toronto. There are no subject restrictions, making it an excellent opportunity for students across diverse academic fields.


Benefits

The National Scholarship Program is one of the most generous undergraduate awards in Canada. Benefits include:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the National Scholarship Program 2026, applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person.
  • Be in their final year of Canadian secondary school or first year of CEGEP.
  • Plan to begin university in the 2026 academic year (or after a gap year).
  • Be nominated by their high school for the U of T National Book Award.
  • Apply to at least one undergraduate program at the University of Toronto by October 17, 2025.

Application Procedure

School Nomination (September–October 2025)

  • Ask your guidance counsellor, principal, or head of school if your school participates in the National Book Award.
  • Schools can nominate one student per year.
  • Nomination deadline: October 10, 2025.

Apply to U of T (by October 17, 2025)

  • Submit an application for admission to at least one undergraduate program at the University of Toronto.

Submit the Scholarship Application (by October 31, 2025)

  • Once nominated and after receiving your JOINid, complete the online National Scholarship Program application.
  • Choose a referee from your school or community. Referees submit their confidential letters online by November 7, 2025.

Interviews (December 2025 – February 2026)

  • Around 25 finalists will be invited to virtual interviews.

Notification

  • Only successful applicants are notified. Scholarship results are shared in early 2026.
