Entry Requirements

Academic Background

• Applicants should possess a relevant bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
• It is recommended that candidates have prior coursework in social sciences, political science, public policy, or related fields.

Proseminar and Registration Requirements

• Complete the Proseminar: Research Methods and Scholarly Writing in the Social Sciences.
• To register, candidates must pass a critical reading and writing skills test or achieve a B or higher in the relevant expository writing course.
• A minimum grade of B must be earned in no more than two registration attempts.
• The Proseminar must be completed within two years prior to application.

Course Completion Requirements

• Complete three government-related courses with a grade of B or higher.
• These courses should include one government course and one additional government course or elective.
• Courses do not need to be completed in a specific order or semester, but starting with the Proseminar is highly recommended.
• Maintain an overall Harvard cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in accordance with the program’s grading standards.
