Scholarship Benefits:

What You Get as a Successful Applicant:

  • Your living expenses covered: An index-linked stipend of £18,622 per year (full-time) for up to 3.5 years (adjusted for part-time).
  • No tuition fees: The University pays your tuition fees if you're a Home student.
  • Research support: A £5,000 Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) spread over 3.5 years (pro-rata for part-time) to help with your research expenses.

This scholarship is open to international and domestic students.

Eligibility Criteria:

Home Students:

  • Up for grabs for those meeting the "Home" criteria: UK nationals, settled or pre-settled status holders, or those with indefinite leave to remain or enter.

International Students:

  • Not quite a Home student? Don't despair! A limited number of fully-funded PhDs are still open for you.
  • Heads up: you'll be responsible for visa costs, healthcare surcharges, and other relocating expenses.

Home Fees Eligibility:

  • Navigating home fee eligibility can be tricky, especially if you've recently moved (to/from UK or Ireland) or applied for EU Settlement Scheme status. Seek guidance if this applies to you.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bring your A-game! We expect a First or Upper Second Class UK Honours degree (or equivalent) in science, engineering, or technology.
  • Second chances: Got a Lower Second Class? No worries! A Master's degree or strong non-academic experience can still get you in the door.

English Language:

  • English not your native tongue? No problem, but you'll need to prove your language skills before starting your PhD. Click here for details and alternative tests accepted.
